Offer free managed EV charging
Offering free EV charging will attract more customers to your business.
From our management portal you can set specific days and hours free charging is available - outside of these times, your chargers switch to pay only mode. This option is great for Cafe's and other establishments and prevents people free loading from your chargers outside of business hours.
Issue EV charging vouchers
EV charging vouchers can be generated directly from our management portal and printed out ready to hand out to customers.
EV charging vouchers can limit the maximum number of charging sessions permitted and can also include an expiry date if required. These can be sold to your customers for any price you choose or you can even hand them out free. This option is great for accommodation providers and works the same way as issuing WiFi access tokens. Customers simply enter the voucher code using our web app to activate the charger.
Credit card payments
Your customers are able to purchase charging sessions directly using our app and a credit card, you can also set the rate per minute that you would like us to bill your customers.
Credit card payments can be spit 50/50 with payment into your bank account monthly, or alternatively you can receive 100% (less card processing and merchant fee's) if you select our premium license plan.
User accounts
Setup user accounts and assign RF ID swipe cards or fobs to each user account - these can be used to easily activate any of your chargers.
Users also have the ability to use our app instead of an RF ID swipe card or fob if they wish. This option is great for company fleets.
Pricing
If you already have your own charger(s) you would like to use with our management system, please contact us to confirm they are compatible.
Your charger(s) must support the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP 1.6J or higher) to be compatible.

Sit back and relax
Once installed, our system can be fully automated and will bring you revenue with no interaction required from your staff.
We will list your charger location on our map, and any other public charging maps so EV drivers know where to find you.
Protect your customers and your business
Our secure online payment system uses bank grade encryption, we also guarantee all revenue generated from online credit card transactions.
All our charging stations are certified for use in New Zealand and will be installed by one of our qualified electrician's – meeting all Worksafe requirements.
We will also organise the annual electrical safety test of your charging stations on your behalf – this test is a requirement by Worksafe. If you are renting your charger(s) from us, the cost of this test is covered by us. If you have purchased your charger(s) from us outright, we will organise this test and pass on any associated costs to you.
By using a safe system like Zappie, you’ll reduce your liability risks and running costs.

Frequently Asked Questions
I own an accommodation business, why do I need to provide EV charging to my guests?
The number of EV’s on New Zealand roads is constantly increasing. The government has measures in place to encourage uptake and increase the number of EV’s on the road to approximately 64,000 by the end of 2021. However the range of these cars is still limited, resulting in the requirement to charge more frequently than you would purchase petrol for a conventional ICE car. An ideal time to charge an EV is overnight. Providing EV charging also means you have the opportunity to attract new guests and differentiate yourself from the competition.
What type of charging stations are available and which one should I look to install?
There are two main types available, Level 2 240V AC Charging, and Level 3 Super Charging 480V DC or higher. For overnight charging at accommodation businesses, we recommend Level 2 Charging – a full charge will take approximately 4 to 8 hours depending on the vehicle.
Charging stations also have different types of cables or sockets, the recommended standard for Level 2 AC charging is for the charger to provide a Type 2 socket; the driver will be expected to provide their own cable that’s compatible with their vehicle.
For more information on charging connectors and standards for New Zealand, please see the NZTA website
Why do I need a charging station when I have already had some customers ask for access to a standard three pin household socket, and this has worked fine for them?
Firstly this is a fire risk, and is also against Worksafe regulations. A lot of power is released from a household socket when using it to charge an EV, this is the equivalent to running multiple heaters on full bore from the same socket. This can easily result in overload, especially if there are other appliances running from the same circuit that the socket is fed from.
Our charging stations are professionally installed by registered electricians, they are properly protected for the amount of power they will use, and are run from their own dedicated circuit.
Charging stations also deliver more power than a standard household socket, and in most instances will charge the EV at least twice as fast, if not faster.
How many charging stations do I need?
Most businesses start off with one charging station, additional stations can easily be installed depending on demand.
How do I activate a charger and pay for a charging session?
First plug your vehicle into the charger, then load up our web app at Charge Zappie – you will need to sign up for an account if you haven’t already done so, and then add a valid credit card to your account. Alternatively the venue you are at may be handing out voucher codes to enable their customers to charge for free – you can enter any voucher codes directly on our web app without the requirement to login or sign up. Voucher codes are valid for a single session only.
How much does it cost to use a charger?
Our standard cost is $0.60c per kWh for electricity usage with no time costs when you use a Zappie account and valid credit card via our web app.
Are any of your chargers free?
Installing and maintaining EV charging stations is not cheap and there are overhead’s and ongoing costs associated – therefore this has to be passed onto our customers.
Some venues and other establishments where we have installed chargers, may offer free charging to their customers only, in this instance you will be given a voucher code or RF ID fob to activate the charger.
Where can I find a charger, have you got a map available?
You can view our charger map via our web app or via our website. Our map will show you which chargers are available, which are in use, and which accept credit card and or voucher codes.
What payment methods are available?
The most common method is Visa or MasterCard via our web app, payments are deducted monthly for all charging sessions you have accumulated, the system will automatically email you a receipt each month. Note that our charging stations do not accept cash or cards.
In some instances you may also be able to purchase voucher codes or borrow an RF ID fob directly from the venue or establishment where the charger is located – please note that we cannot control the prices they may charge (some may give these out free), not all of them offer this option.
